Product Details

Description:

The Cylinder Honing Tool with a 127mm diameter, engineered for engines and featuring a 180-grit and a 140mm ball type, provides precise honing capabilities. It covers a range of 143-153mm, making it a versatile choice for 6" honing applications.

Key Features:

  • Secure Holding: The Flex-Hone tool is designed to be securely held in a collet, chuck, or similar holding device, ensuring stability and precision during honing operations.

  • Optimal Shank Length: Achieve optimal results by using the shortest shank possible, enhancing control and precision during the honing process.

  • Wide RPM Range: The tool operates at spindle speeds ranging from 60 to 1200 RPM, with the spindle speed dependent on the tool diameter. Smaller diameters allow for higher spindle speeds.

  • Spindle Speed Recommendation: Start with a spindle speed between 500-800 RPM and experiment to find the optimum speed for your specific application. Never exceed 1200 RPM.

  • Lubrication Requirement: The Flex-Hone tool should be well coated with lubricant and rotating before entry, and it must always be used with a good quality cutting oil or honing fluid to minimize heat and prevent loading.

Technical Information:

  • Stroke Rate: Maintain a continuous stroke rate between 120 to 180 inches per minute for optimal honing results.

  • Final Stroking Acceleration: Accelerate final stroking to develop a 45° crosshatch finish on the honed surface.

  • Honing Time: Utilize the minimum honing time needed for the required finish, with an average honing time of 10-25 seconds (5-15 strokes).

  • Cleaning Process: After honing, clean the cylinder using hot, soapy water and a cleaning brush. Dry the cylinder and continue cleaning with a lint-free cloth coated with a light oil or mineral spirits until the cloth remains clean.
